For The Collaborative Project, we were tasked with creating a dress using a fabric that many students in my class would also be working with. I chose crinoline, as I wanted to deepen my understanding of its properties and explore its potential beyond its traditional use as an underskirt.
Instead of using crinoline as a hidden structural element, I decided to make it the focal point of my design. I created a detachable six-layer skirt that attaches to a hooded top using snaps at the waistband. To develop the pattern, I worked directly on a mannequin, allowing me to experiment and push the limits of the fabric.
This project was an opportunity for me to have fun, challenge myself, and explore the versatility of crinoline. The final design incorporates 15 meters of fabric, showcasing volume, movement, and an unconventional approach to this material.
