UAL 1st year project
This project was a collaboration with Urban Outfitters. Based on their criteria and target market, we were tasked with creating a sub-collection for a marginalized group.
As an international student from a low-income background, I drew inspiration from my personal experiences to design a collection that highlights how fashion can be both accessible and thought-provoking. By incorporating sarcasm, I aimed to underscore the irony of the fashion industry—where trends often dictate excessive spending, yet creativity can thrive on limited resources.
My collection challenges viewers to question what they are seeing and why certain parts of the garments appear to be missing. Additionally, due to financial constraints, I sourced all fabrics and trims from the school's reserve, which primarily consists of surplus materials discarded by companies from previous collections. This approach not only reinforced the theme of resourcefulness but also aligned with Montreal’s upcoming legislation prohibiting the disposal of unsold clothing. Through this project, I explored an alternative solution for companies to repurpose leftover materials, demonstrating a sustainable and innovative approach to fashion design.

Here's some pages from m portfolio. I work a lot on the mannequin to see how the fabric was moving and I didn't want to cut into it since I couldn't buy more.
